Honda Civic Type R – oxygen not supplied
The hatchback brings with it two main demographics that tend to part with their money rather than anyone in society – the very young and very old. For the elderly, a shiny hatchback represents an inexpensive, safe and enjoyable for a ride home from the shops, bingo and the church. The Honda Civic range has been king of the gray-haired brigade for decades and brings a transport solution a modest, sensitive and reliable to get from A to B.
For young people – mostly males with fluff stuck to his upper lip, and the Honda Civic hatchback rivals represent the cheapest way to get a car, secure it and beaten within an inch of life is every night in a McDonalds parking lot. The fun does not end there. From the initial conception of Max magazine Power in the nineties, car modification has gone through the roof. Even Hollywood is in on the act with the trilogy of The Fast and the Furious see more neon lights in cinema car parks than a club in Ibiza.
Like the punk movement, is the DIY Aesthetic customize your car a million different options and standing out from the crowd that appeals. With its bullet proof reliability and extensive catalog of performance and style parts, the Honda Civic has simultaneously become the choice favorite at both ends of the circle of life – but for very different reasons.
Honda are not stupid and having seen the appeal of mass market for 'hot hatches' thought it better to produce one for the British market – and thus was born the Civic Type R in 2001. Higher the lip fluff brigade were beside themselves with excitement. Gray-haired brigade were happy with the model regulation. Anyway, on a Honda was the winner with a large percentage of the population.
The Type R is an exceptional car too, with a 0-60mph time of 6.6 seconds, and the ever-eager VTEC engine revs at 8,250 rpm. Stylistically it was very different from standard model, with alloy wheels of 17 inches and a spoiler adorning the rear of the key differences. It was in the way that the little Honda Civic really delighted with the Japanese firm clearly using the Formula One program for the good of their hot hatch. The Civic Type R became the biggest return on sales in the saloon Noughties – with more than 35,000 units sold – so it was no surprise at the British Motor Show 2006, when everyone's legs turned to jelly when pressed eyes in the back.
The new Civic is all the triangles and the space-age – a very shift of risk to a caterer happy for such a diversity customers. However Honda have always wanted to leave behind its image of being old carmaker people and the newest Civic is a styling exercise with the sole intention of keeping its young fan base and stealing the middle aged out of his Volkswagen Golf. The Type-R for recording not only turn my legs gelatin for the Motor Show – I needed a crash team and some oxygen.
The production model is only slightly diluted in the final concept in 2006, with the body kit identical. That means that unlike the previous Civic Type R is not necessary to check the ID card for this model is not base. I do not know where to start to be honest – and will say everything I need, and that either you love it or hate it. It seems as if a spaceship has crashed into the Pyramids and expelled – but for me, it works.
Crucially Honda have not messed with the engine, so the new Type R retains the 2.0 liters, 197bhp engine from its predecessor. Although this of course, save on Honda's design costs, which is a clear case of "if it is not broke do not fix it". Honda say they have made this new model refined with a suspension that is not as hot the last model, however, that somehow firmer and unfortunately not refined in the least.
This criticism aside, the new Type R has reason for confidence in an already crowded market in particular with the Ford Focus ST, Renault Clio 197 and Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Brand loyalty counts a lot and when the last model sold 2333% more than anticipated, the fluff brigade are surely going to be reaching for oxygen and your money too.
