Duncan Vernon, RoSPA Road Safety Manager, said, "Our research found that there exists a clear skills gap training. Young workers need to drive, and the conditions and situations, which have limited, if any, previous experience.
"Many employers reported that not to trust the drivers license as proof of competition in driving to work and carry out many of their own assessments before allowing employees to drive for work purposes. No wonder therefore that many said they find a driving position for qualifying test useful work. "
The test would help to develop safer driving attitudes, awareness of driving in different conditions, higher risk perception and driving on the highway, as these were among the main issues raised by employers about their young workers.
The RoSPA wants the title accredited to a national standard, but have stressed that it is an optional requirement and flexible designed to meet the needs of different organizations.
