Purchase / cancellation ensuring a D …?

Hello – wondering if anyone could offer some advice … I need a new car in a hurry. They offered me a Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia, 39k miles, on a plate 04, of 3150 pounds – 12 months MOT, 6 months tax. However, I HPI'd, and is shown as a category D write off (damaged but repairable – the insurer decided not to bother). I know the guy selling quite well and is reliable. He said that the lady went to the passenger side door, and all repaired. Without doubt, it looks good. However, I am not sure where I had to tell. Obviously, I would tell the insurance company – but my premiums are likely to increase? Paid in the event of an accident? More generally – CAT D-offs – a good idea or not? Thanks for any help!

Tell your insurance company that the car jack is in a "d" My last 2 cars are CAT D write-offs and I honestly say that they were a bargain, payable @ 30% less than the price of the book. I use the Marks and Spencer insurance for my cat d (SEAT León FR)
