House fire – not enough insurance money to rebuild?
We had a house fire in April 2007 as the house is still standing, but destroyed inside of the homeowners insurance company considered it a great loss, not a total loss. Meanwhile, we have had nine different contractors come and assess the damages and they all say and even $ 225,000, and the homeowner gave us only 120,000. What they got from the insurance company that had to deliver to our mortgage company, and are controlling it by saying we can not do the work ourselves has to be a prime contractor, and since no main contractor is played for that small amount that we are between a rock and a hard place. Any suggestions??? Meanwhile, we hire at the time elsewhere, and that the house is defintely not habitable. Thanks, Jean
I feel that I have a suggestion for you, but I'm in a similar situation so I feel for you. I crazy right now so unstable in our mortgage company to not release the funds. Amish in our area I've row to do the work in our barn, but now the bank will not release the funds because they are the main contractors and can not fill out a W-9. We were planning to help and to help offset some costs. However, the insurance company does not give enough money to hire a contractor. Very frustrating. I do not think this is right! My thoughts are with you and your family, their situation is much worse than ours. I hope things look up soon for you. Best Wishes.
