Pregnancy and health insurance?

Our employers cancel our health insurance and we are applying for individual coverage. I was told that if I am thinking to get pregnant I have a maternity rider for an additional $ 100 per month. If I am pregnant without it will not cover my pregnancy. United Healthcare is the only insurance in Texas offer maternity coverage. Does this sound correct? What if I was not thinking of him and only got pregnant? I would not be cover. I feel I am being lied to. Let me know if you've had experience with this. Thanks for your feedback.

Hello. I am 34 weeks pregnant and have worked in the health insurance industry for 12 years and recently left the field to a different job. I currently have a policy of individual insurance because my employer not offer health insurance. If you're planning to get pregnant, you need the maternity rider on your individual health policy. This will cost more because the added cost of the services of the insurance company will pay as a result she is pregnant. Also, make sure that the insurance company will cover you when you are pregnant and that the plan does not have a "waiting period of maternity" in it. Some insurance policies have individual health a period of 12 months of waiting, which will not pay for maternity-related services until after any insured with the company for 12 months after its effective date. If you are pregnant when taking the policy, there is a possibility that your insurance company that this is a condition pre-existing and does not cover pregnancy. They are entitled to request medical office notes from your doctor to determine the date that is seen receiving a request from the office from your doctor for maternity leave or pregnancy-related services and then deny the request as pre-existing, if she was pregnant before your policy effective date. It's frustrating from the time you need insurance most, if you have or wish to obtain an individual plan that covers maternity services, you have to ensure that the plan does not have a waiting period of motherhood and she is not pregnant before the effective date of the plan. Some states have sponsored health plans to pay for maternity coverage, even if they are already pregnant, however, there are eligibility requirements and limitations. My recommendation is: if you're thinking getting pregnant (and not pregnant) and then I would get the health insurance plan with the pilot of motherhood and verify that there is a period of 12 months Waiting and covering maternity maternity services if they get pregnant in the months following its effective date. Good luck!
