What kind of wages needed to live comfortably in Boston?
I wonder people who live there or in the area. How much money you have to win to be able to pay rent, insurance, gas, groceries, etc. and still have some money to save. Be apartment rentals run anywhere from $ 1500 – $ 2000 per month, but I'm not sure other expenses.
Living in the outskirts of the city is totally worth your money, or even in Brighton / Allston area. My car insurance with a perfect driving record for a 06 lancer with 3 years of driving experience (though I'm 24 … lol) is 184/month, two months free per year. The insurance is quite common here, and does far …. There are strict rules about what insurance companies can charge here so you sees no major companies, including Allstate, GEICO gas etc … see … I go to work about 8 miles round trip a day, plus on my days off I'm always spinning somewhere … probably spend $ 40 a week on gas. Right now its around 3.80/gallon. If you are planning on living in the city, hoping to having to buy a parking permit, garage or monthly fee … However, avoided if you live outside the city. I work in a restaurant I do not really buy food, but rather their level everywhere. Cable / Internet here usually runs between 100-120 per month if you receive a combined package. Most places do have central air conditioning so if you use one in summer, expect to see reflected in your electric bill, though not very hard to find a place includes at least some of the utilities in the rent. I share my 2 bedroom apartment in Dedham, MA, about 20 minutes from the city with my boyfriend. Our electric is inluded but pay heating and hot water. Our rent is 1200/month…and our gas bill last month was only $ 30, but once you dont cook so thats probably why it was so low. This is my monthly breakdown of rental: 1200 Utilities: 130 (cable, internet and gas), however, that will be around 180 in the winter Insurance (car): 185 Gas: 120 Food: $ 40, but what you pay now will not change much entertainment: (thats a big one that you forgot or excluded) 400 Sheets: 200 (some people LOOOOOT spend more and some spend less, depends on where you buy and what you like to spend I guess) That's all I can think for now … is a bit expensive, but people also usually pay more for them here, nearly all the work they do. I can afford this lifestyle as waiter, and I always enough money to save, at the end of the month. It is fully capable of doing, it just depends on how aware are you of your finances. I love Boston, I never want to leave! Good luck
