insurance financial statements

How long should I keep credit cards, utility bills and other financial documents?
I am cleaning the documents I have had for years and I wonder, for tax purposes, how long do I have to keep some of them. I have prescription forms (the pharmacy attributed to the writing itself) insurance EOBs and other documents simply take the space of years and wants to downsize and simplify! I'm afraid to get rid of documents financial, however. What is a safe time period for maintaining these?
Any normal bill, you can shoot once they are convinced that they are right. Credit card statements and bank receipts will probably be maintained for 3 months (never know when you might need to go to the bank and get a loan or something). Any financial documents (ie receipts, forms, etc. ..), concerning taxes should be maintained for 3 years. Any attempt to collect, the measures rememdy it has taken to them, and the correspondences that have been made or received must be maintained for the entire statue of limitations … 15.
