Switching from dual citizenship of the States to Canada?
I'm 21 years old and born in the U.S., but my father is from Canada. He asked my citizenship, and now I have a certificate. I will be driving through the border with my car to move to Ontario. I'll go to college. Have not registered yet, but apply when they get there. I have an American passport and my Canadian citizenship certificate. My questions are: Is the official documents meet the border when they I say that I'm moving there? (Even though I have a Canadian passport) And, can I take my car through? Since going to school, I am my parents' insurance. My license plates and are in Illinois, but I went to school in North Dakota. Here in the States, you do not change any of that because I went to school. Therefore, this will For Canada as well? Meaning, you have to change my license or plates or the state will still apply? Thank you!
The certificate is good for go to Canada. About the school – you must have enough money for the first year (including all tuition fees) and when you will be ineligible for a student loan. In Canada, student loans are ISSED based on your last tax return. So you must present a minimum of a tax to the Canada Revenue Agency before the student loan department can issue a loan. But the same is not true for your car. Especially if you plan to stay in Canada for over 6 months. Here is a website to explain all you need to do. http://www.riv.ca/ImportingAVehicle.aspx
