insurance testing for smoking
For purposes of proof of life insurance, how long is nicotine detectable in the system?

I have a friend who just quit and want to know how long to wait before he will get life insurance (to obtain the physical examination). I would like to wait until no more (detectable) of nicotine in their system. How long should you wait before subscribing?

The actual enzyme is detected (by a blood test) which reveals the presence of nicotine in the system is called cotinine, and is detectable within 7-10 days after the snuff product is smoked. The person makes a good point earlier that the life insurance company denied the right if you are a smoker anyway so I would have to pay fees for all non-smoking. Also, tell your friend who has a ounce of personal integrity and refrain from misleading the society or more importantly, policyholders like you and me whose rates are based on people not to let which deal with the insurer.
