As indicated in previous articles, the field of risk management of workers compensation € ™ is not just multifaceted and complex, but also presents several challenges.

Effectively communicate security issues to a diverse workforce is one of those challenges. As a consultant risk management for many years, IA € ™ I have gathered solid information and experiences on how best to communicate safety and messages workers' compensation for a large workforce and diverse, including organizations with thousands of employees with diverse backgrounds and many different job descriptions.

We call this the Five / Four Method: 5 Security of Communication Techniques and 4 formats safety messages. Before starting, identify your target audience and message security who wants to give.

However, the most important thing that an employer must do before applying any communication program security are met with employees and supervisors to explore their ideas about what to communicate and how best to do so.

Five Techniques for Communication Security

First: Identify the specific message that you want to communicate.

Example: Is the message about employees to get to work more safely around certain teams?

Or is to provide information on steps to take if injured?

Second: Identify the skill set and level of your audience.

Example: A message to the level of vice president commitment to improve the safety program will be presented differently to the instructions for front line employees on how to report an accident.

A general rule to think about levels of language is to take account of the Wall Street Journal is written in a first year university level, while that Reader's Digest is written in the sixth grade reading.

Third: Consider the functions employment and how best to your message.

Example: Some employees may spend most of his workday in an office or a specific area of a plant. Others can spend working in different areas of the plant or facility. And others may spend their day driving from one place to another. Itâ € ™ sa good idea to bring its safety message to the kinds of security issues most likely to effect employees and work areas. Â

Fourth: Identify the languages of their employees speak. Donâ € ™ t assume that just English and / or Spanish. Can not have many other languages. In many areas of the country there are large numbers of Russian-speaking workers, to name one. In addition, differences in languages, as the Spanish in Cuba and Puerto Rico Spanish.Â

It would not be too far off the mark to the survey suggest that workers manage their languages € ™, and provide all safety messages as appropriate. This is especially true if workers do not speak English are used in areas of high security risk.

Fifth: Consider the work environment. If you have nice workmanship, do not use a communication style heavy-handed. Save for a workforce where there may be a lot of discontent and resentment.

Four security Message Formats

Now itâ € ™ s time to look at a number of ways to present your message safely.

1. Wallet Cards: A great card wallet law is one of the most effective tools to provide its employees to take their message of safety. Each card is printed with important safety information and / or information on accident reports.

A wallet card for the accident to provide information where to seek treatment in the workplace where the accident report, where you can file a claim for compensation (usually with the coordinator of the compensation workers), the importance of working again as soon as possible, etc. The card also has contact information for the office of workers compensation and other parts involved in the process. (For example, TPA, insurance representative, etc.).

Information is printed in English on one side and Spanish on the other (or other dominant language of its workforce). Supervisors receive different cards outlining their role in response to accidents.

2nd MSDS: A sheet of laminated safety the page is another good choice. Post in each work area using a removable permanent method. Use brightly colored paper for drawing all employeesâ € ™ attention to it, but it enables the supervisor to distinguish this available to other documents. Directing attention employeesâ € ™ saying â € œPlease read the safety information sheet orange. "

3. Pictograms in the safety data sheet of a page are very useful in communicating with people who have knowledge lower-level language or who speak different languages. An example might be pictograms on proper lifting techniques.

Every months a road safety different on a different security issue, is recorded: lifting correctly, the prevention of falls, slips and falls, etc. Also, give each employee a single copy for permanent reference.

4. Security packages: For employees who handle all day, preparing packages of information security that is stored in a glove box. The package also contains a disposable camera for use at the scene to record a accident, together with a form to report accidents.
