the amount of insurance to rent a car so I really need?

Stateside I do not have auto insurance. We are soldiers who live abroad. Renting an car in Hawaii and did not want to spend a fortune on rental car insurance, but want to be covered.

If you have a credit card Gold or Platinum probably is covered, read your credit card agreement. If you have a credit card that covers rental cars, you must obtain insurance collision damage waiver from the rental company. Today, most do not limit their liability if they have no coverage or have a credit card that you cover.
