INSURANCE group Aviva today announced it expects to ax 1,800 jobs over the next two years, headquartered in Ipswich between those who are affected.
According to Norwich Union Insurance, Aviva's UK general insurance business, the measure was the final stage of the introduction of an "operational model" to improve service levels and drive growth.
The insurance company says it plans to focus its operations on seven "centers of excellence" Based in Norwich, Perth, Bishopbriggs, Stretford, Manchester, Leicester and Southend.
Norwich Union, also said that these centers were selected as the "best equipped to meet the future needs of our business in terms of basic skills and availability, accommodation, access, and infrastructure .
However, the reorganization will mean Norwich Union Insurance recall of more than a dozen centers including Ipswich – where the group is understood that employed about 60 people in total – Dundee, Glasgow, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Cheadle, Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton, Basildon, Exeter and Worthing.
"This is going to spend carefully in the next two years as NUI aims to minimize the disruption to customers and all possible support to their employees because they undergo transformation, "the company said.
"Today's announcements do not affect RAC Rescue Operations, and NUI will continue to maintain running its business presence in 40 sites in the UK, keeping subscribers about their brokers.
He added: "Furthermore, many of the sites affected by these changes are also the basis for people working for other parts of Norwich Union, which was not affected by today's announcement, so the company will remain a presence in many of these places. "
The company explained that specific buildings will be closed in some areas however, a part of the staff currently working in the buildings will be relocated to alternative premises.
Norwich Union said it would seek to offer affected staff redeployment within the organization and would "provide as much support as possible."
Igal Mayer, chief executive of Norwich Union Insurance, said: "We very strong company that has grown over the years into a complex organization.
"We want to provide excellent customer service, consistent and reliable the market leading efficiency. To accomplish this, we must radically simplify our business, consolidating our expertise into seven insurance centers of the future in the UK.
"This is a transformation that will take place over the next two years and provide our employees with the products, processes and technology to give our customers and partners excellent service, right the first time, every time. "
Mr. Mayer added: "What we are announcing today represents a significant operational change but I'm convinced we're on the right course and we have the best people working in the delivery of products and processes in the service of our customers and partners too. "
Norwich Union Insurance currently has offices in 52 towns and cities in the United Kingdom, 22 of which are affected by the changes. In some cases specific buildings will close, with staff moving into smaller accommodation in the same towns and cities.
